The Khasab Mountain Safari is a guided off-road 4×4 tour that takes you deep into the Hajar Mountain range of the Musandam Peninsula — one of the most dramatic and least explored mountain landscapes in the entire Arabian Gulf region. Travelling in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4-wheel drive vehicle with an experienced local driver-guide, you ascend rugged mountain tracks that ordinary vehicles simply cannot navigate, reaching viewpoints, heritage sites, and ancient villages that remain virtually untouched by modern tourism.
The tour covers approximately 3.5 to 4 hours and includes multiple stops of genuine interest: from the ancient fossil fields near Jebel Al Harim — where you can see the preserved remains of marine creatures from millions of years ago embedded in the limestone — to the serene Bedouin plateau village of Sayh, where life continues much as it has for generations. The journey culminates at Khor Najd, the only accessible point in Musandam where the mountain terrain meets the sea, offering one of the most photographed viewpoints in all of Oman.
Unlike the dhow cruise experience on the water, the mountain safari gives you Musandam from an entirely different perspective, looking down at the fjords, the sea, and the distant coastline from above. Historically, the mountain’s name is thought to derive from its role as a refuge for the women and children of local tribes during times of conflict, given its near-inaccessible terrain. Today, it is a natural wonder of rare beauty. Yes. The entire tour is conducted from an air-conditioned 4×4 vehicle. You do not need to hike, climb, or exert yourself physically to access any of the viewpoints. The off-road sections are bumpy and exciting but do not require any physical ability beyond the ability to sit comfortably in a vehicle. All ages are welcome.
The mountain track to Jebel Al Harim is an unsealed, unpaved off-road route that is not accessible by ordinary cars. Our 4×4 vehicles are specifically equipped for this terrain, and our drivers are experienced local professionals who have navigated these routes countless times. The journey is safe when conducted with the right vehicle and guide — which is exactly what we provide.

Comfortable, layered clothing (it can be significantly cooler at altitude, especially in winter months). Closed-toed shoes or trainers are recommended. Bring sunglasses, sun hat, and sunscreen. A camera or phone with good battery life is essential — the views are extraordinary. Water is provided, but you may wish to bring snacks. Passports required for travellers coming from the UAE.
If you are already in Khasab, no visa is required for the tour itself — you are already in Oman. If you are travelling from the UAE to Khasab to join the tour, you will need an Oman visit visa (5 OMR at the Tibat border) and will pay a UAE exit fee of 35 AED. Entry to Oman will only be permissible with a visit visa which costs 5 OMR per passport.
Additionally, when leaving UAE, you must pay an exit fee of 35 AED.
You can apply for a visa online at https://evisa.rop.gov.om/, or you can pick one up at the border.
But you must determine your eligibility based on your nationality and type of visa.
Residents of the UAE must have a passport that is valid for at least 3 months from the start of the trip in order to receive a visa.
Moreover, ensure that you have your original passport with you.
If you want to drive, take your driver’s license with you. To enter Oman in a rental automobile, you must have a NOC provided by the company.
