Both are Musandam. They are not the same trip, and plenty of people book the wrong one.
Dibba sits at the southern edge of the peninsula. It is closer to Dubai, so it is the common short day trip.
Khasab sits at the northern tip, several hours further on. It is where the deep fjord system, Telegraph Island and the sea-locked fishing villages actually are

A dhow is a traditional working boat adapted for passengers. Open decks laid with Omani carpets and cushions, shaded seating, and a slow, quiet passage.
You sit low to the water with limestone walls rising directly above you. On a speedboat you would cover the same distance and see almost none of it.
Our dhows carry groups from two to forty-plus guests depending on the vessel. Shared departures are pooled; private charters give you the whole boat.
Every dhow carries an onboard toilet. Full day and overnight vessels also have a basic shower facility. Towels, handwash and tissues are provided on all cruises.
Musandam is a governorate of Oman and an exclave, cut off from the rest of the country by UAE territory. That is why nearly every visitor arrives through the Emirates rather than from Muscat.
Musandam holds resident pods of spinner and humpback dolphins. They frequently come to the dhow and ride the bow wave. Sightings are the highlight of most trips.
We will not promise them. These are wild animals in open water. Any operator guaranteeing a sighting is selling you something they do not control.
What we can tell you honestly is this: longer cruises spend more hours in dolphin water, so they give you more chances. Morning departures are generally more active than afternoons.

Stops are made in sheltered bays where the dhow anchors and you enter straight from the boat.
Masks, fins, snorkels, towels and life jackets are provided on board. The water is clear and shallow enough that reef fish are visible without diving.
No experience is needed. With a life jacket, no real swimming ability either.
Swim stops depend on sea conditions and the day’s schedule. Between stops, most of the time is spent on deck watching the cliffs pass. That is the point of the trip, not the gap between activities.
Refreshments run throughout: unlimited water and soft drinks, Omani tea and qahwa, and fresh seasonal fruit.

Morning departs 09:30 and returns 13:00. Check-in at 09:00.
Afternoon departs 13:30 and returns between 16:30 and 17:00. Check-in at 13:00.
Both follow the same shape: fjord cruising and village sightseeing, dolphin watching around 45 minutes to an hour after departure, then one snorkelling stop at Telegraph Island of 45 to 60 minutes, then the return cruise.
The half day does not reach Seebi Island and does not include lunch.

The extra hours also mean more time in dolphin water. That is the single biggest practical difference from the half day.

Full Day or Luxury Full Day?
Same route. Same six hours. Same stops. So the only honest comparison is the boat and what happens on it.
The standard full day runs on a traditional dhow with shaded deck seating, carpets and cushions, shared with other guests.
The luxury full day cruise runs on an upgraded vessel with more deck space per person, better seating and shade, and a more considered lunch.
Nobody sees more coastline on the luxury cruise. You are buying room, comfort and a quieter deck.
Choose the standard full day if the landscape is the point and you are happy sharing a busy boat. Choose the luxury full day for a honeymoon or an anniversary, or if a long day on a crowded deck would take the edge off it.

Five things move the number: duration, whether the dhow is shared or privately chartered, the vessel, group size, and the travel date. Peak season and public holidays book out and price accordingly.
Separate from the cruise price, and payable by you at the border: the Oman visit visa at 5 OMR per passport, and the UAE exit fee at 35 AED per person. If you are driving your own or a rental car, border insurance is around 100 AED if you do not already hold cover.

Meals, Dietary Requirements and Drinking Water in Musandam Dhow
Full day Musandam cruises include a traditional Omani semi-buffet lunch: fried rice, grilled or fried chicken, hummus, fresh salad, khubz bread and seasonal fruit.
Overnight cruises add a BBQ dinner of chicken tikka, grilled fish, kebabs, rice, salad and bread, then breakfast of boiled eggs, yoghurt, jams, bread, cereals, tea, coffee and juice.
Half day cruises include refreshments and fruit, but no meal.
Unlimited water, soft drinks, Omani tea and qahwa run throughout every cruise.
Vegetarian options are available on request. On private charters we can build a personalised menu.

Safety On Board
Every cruise begins with a safety briefing at check-in, before departure. Equipment is issued and checked at the same time.
Life jackets are provided for all guests including children’s sizes, and are required at swim stops for anyone who is not a confident swimmer.
Swim stops are supervised by crew from the deck.Every dhow carries an onboard toilet. Full day and overnight vessels also have a basic shower.We do not sail when sea conditions are unsafe.
Cancellation, Deposits and Rescheduling
We would rather you knew this before booking than after.
Cancellations are non-refundable. Your deposit is not lost, however. It is carried forward and can be applied to a future booking with us.
Date changes are handled the same way, subject to availability. Contact us as early as you can.
If we cancel for sea or weather conditions, contact our team and we will move you to the next workable departure.
Because dates are held rather than refunded, weekends and public holidays in the October to April season are worth booking early rather than late.

Getting to Khasab Port: Distance, Border and Visa
Khasab Port is roughly 3.5 to 4 hours from Dubai by road, including border processing.
The route runs north through Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah to the Tibat border crossing, then follows the coast road into Khasab with the Hajar Mountains on one side and the sea on the other.

Sponsored or dependent visas. If you hold one, your sponsor must travel with you. This is the single most common reason a booking falls apart at the border.
UAE single-entry visa holders cannot cross. The UAE visa is cancelled on exit, so there is no way back in.
Not every UAE profession is eligible for visa on arrival. Send us your nationality and residency status before you travel and we will confirm what you need.

Season, Sea Conditions and What to Pack
October to April is the comfortable season. Temperatures sit around 20 to 30°C, the water is calm, and the light is good. It is also the busiest, so book ahead.
May to September is genuinely hot, with temperatures pushing past 40°C and choppier open water. We sail all year, and the sea is at its warmest for swimming.In summer, half day and overnight options handle the heat far better than a full day in direct sun.Travelling in summer? Towels and snorkelling equipment are provided. You do not need to bring either.

What time does the Musandam dhow cruise depart? The full day departs at 10:00 with check-in at 09:30, returning at 16:00. The half day runs twice daily: 09:30 to 13:00, and 13:30 to roughly 17:00. Overnight cruises depart at 10:00 and return at 09:30 the next morning.

What documents do I need to enter Oman? An original passport valid at least 90 days, and a UAE residence or visit visa with 90 days remaining. UAE residents must carry the original Emirates ID. The Oman visit visa is 5 OMR at the Tibat border, and the UAE exit fee is 35 AED.
I have a dependent or sponsored visa. Can I come? Yes, but your sponsor must travel with you. UAE single-entry visa holders cannot cross, because the UAE visa is cancelled on exit. Send us your details before you travel and we will confirm.
What happens if the weather is bad on my date? We do not sail when conditions are unsafe. Khor Ash Sham is sheltered, so we can often run when boats working outside the inlet cannot. If we cancel, contact us and we will move you to the next workable departure.
Can I book if my cruise ship calls at Khasab? Yes. The half day is built for it, and both morning and afternoon slots are available. Send your ship name, docking time and last re-boarding time and we will schedule around it.
Is the trip worth doing in summer? Yes, with the right package. The water is warmest between May and September, but daytime heat can exceed 40°C. We recommend the half day or overnight rather than a full day on an open deck.
